10 Ways To Feel A Little More Luxurious | Luxury Lifestyle – Luxury living means many different things to many different people. For some it’s buying clothes without having to check the price tag, for others it’s not worrying about basic necessities for living. Then there are those who live a jet-set life, buy Birkin bags non-stop and who have a holiday on their own private island. What luxury is, depends on who you ask. I think of luxury as something that isn’t a necessity but enriches ordinary things in life. A life of elegance and abundance. That doesn’t mean you need to be filthy rich! I believe you can live luxuriously without having all the money in the world (although it often makes it easier)
Some belief wealth is inherently a bad thing in Islam and that it doesn’t fit with modest living. I like this except by islamicfinanceguru.com
“Wealth in Islam is not a bad thing. It is an instrument. Wealth should be understood as a means to an end, and not loved as an end itself. That kind of relationship to wealth is only possible for some people.”
But that is not what this blog post is about! I have collected … ways to help you feel a little more luxurious in life. Sure, you may think you need to have a wardrobe full of designer labels, or own multiple homes, but these few tips will help feel a little more luxurious without going overboard.
10 Ways To Feel A Little More Luxurious
1. Feel a little more affluent by using the correct tableware
See, I said that these tips wouldn’t go overboard. Using the correct tableware will elevate you in a very simple way. When you go to a restaurant, you are served your espresso in an espresso glass. When you are out for tea you probably either drink from a tea glass or from porcelain cups. It depends on culture, naturally.

When I drink Moroccan mint tea, I always drink it in Moroccan tea glasses, with the tea made in a Morrocan teapot. When I pour myself a glass, I do it the right way: from a height! It changes the entire experience and feels more authentic to me, which is a big part of me feeling a little more luxurious.
2. Add a cup of tea, coffee or a glass of water to your morning ritual for an affluent start to the day.
We are always in a hurry, aren’t we? There is always a place to be, a person waiting, or a project to be done. Life flies by this way, and taking a moment feels like wasting time when you have a busy schedule. But not when you try to feel a little more luxurious!
You have time, believe it or not. It’s a matter of priority. So prioritise a good quality cup of coffee, a mug of tea or just a glass with water and some lemon juice and take a breather. No phone, no television just you enjoying your beverage, getting ready for your day.
3. Break up your routine now and then!
We are all so moderate, modest and routine based. That’s not a bad thing necessarily but it can get boring quite fast! I used to sit in the same spot for an entire year when taking the bus, it was just easier that way. We do so many things on the automatic pilot nowadays, because it makes life easier. That is easily fixed!
You can feel a little more luxurious by being ‘extra’ and breaking up your routine now and then. If you make a wonderful meal, then don’t put it on your nice tableware and use your fancy cutlery for a change. Garnish your food and make it extra pretty before you eat it. Wear your expensive pearl necklace for something mundane like running errands. Instead of taking the car, you take the train.
4. Stop saving the best for last and enjoy the occasional extravagance
Most of us use our old stuff daily. Stuff that is still okay looking, but not really nice anymore. Stuff that should be donated to goodwill to make someone else happy! We don’t want to buy or use our new things because we feel like we either don’t deserve them yet or because the old stuff is still ‘okay’. That’s a scarcity mindset right there! If you buy high-quality products that you can use for a longer time, then that’s wonderful. I’m not telling you to keep buying and consuming. What I want you to do is stop saving your best things for last!
So to feel a little more luxurious you can, for example, stop wearing the panties from when you were 16 with holes. Stop eating all your veggies first, before you get to that nice steak (It’s going to be cold by the time you get to it). And stop waiting for your other candle to finish before you use the other one! Allow yourself to use (or eat) nice things!
5. Treat Yourself 2021 to feel a little more luxurious!
Whenever I feel particularly down, I take extra time to treat myself. It doesn’t have to be expensive at all! Taking a long nice shower, using a lovely scrub, painting your nails, using a hair mask, performing an extensive version of a skincare routing including your jade roller. All these things are little treats!
When I do want to spend some money to feel a little more luxurious, I’ll make an appointment with a masseuse, go to a hair salon to get a blowout (and carefully put my hijab on top trying to not ruin the hair) and maybe even a pedicure. Maybe go shopping or visiting a restaurant or fancy cafe with amazing looking macaroons. Treating yourself like a queen now and then reminds you that you are a queen! So, as Donna Meagle of Parks & Recreation says: “Treat Yo Self!”
6. A clean home helps a lot and creates comfort!
If your home’s a mess, more often than not, you are a mess as well! Chalk it up to bad time management, being in no mood to clean, or feeling overwhelmed. When your home is untidy, chances are that your mind is unruly as well. You can feel a little more luxurious by cleaning your entire home and making sure it stays clean. Vacuum, mop, dust and scrub your home. Take a day to really get in there. Do all your laundry and throw out your old make-up! If it’s too much for you to do by yourself, consider getting a cleaner for a day to help you out! Add some flowers to top it off and you’ve got yourself a clean and more luxurious home!
7. You can afford most things you want, it’s a matter of priorities & faith mindset
How often do you see something you absolutely adore and go ‘it’s too expensive, I can’t afford it”. Quite a lot, in my case. The thing is, you often can afford those expensive things you want, but it’s a matter of priorities. Do you really want a Birkin bag? You can probably get one, but that means not going on vacation for a number of years. That’s a ridiculous thing to do, of course, but point is that when you say you can’t afford something you are thinking with a scarcity mindset also known as a fear mindset.
Stop saying that you can’t afford things and from now on say that you don’t prioritise them. It puts your whole situation in a whole different perspective, doesn’t it? Instead of being a victim to your wallet and paycheck by saying you can’t afford something, you become the one in the power of making your own choices. It’s not a matter of money, it’s a matter of what you choose to prioritise!
8. Reconsider the pieces in your wardrobe
I want you to take a day and sort out your wardrobe. Try everything one and see how you look in them. Does it still fit you? Is it flattering? Does it fit within your other style choices and your personality? If you are into the Classic Muslimah Look, you might throw out the trendy pieces that you bought on a whim and will never wear. Really take the time and check every part of your closet including loungewear! Stop wearing training suits, and start investing in high-quality fabrics for loungewear.
You can feel a little more luxurious by just looking a little more luxurious! If you really want to have fun with it and if you enjoy organising, then buy dividers and sort your clothes or fit, colour or style. I, for example, divide my wardrobe up in colour. That way, I find every piece immediately!
9. Try a luxurious hobby or go to a luxurious cafe!
You feel a little more luxurious when you visit luxurious places or try luxurious hobbies and sports! Yoga for example is not only amazing to keep yourself limber, but also quite a luxurious sport! You can try ice skating, tennis, ballet and many more! If your partner is in a good mood, you can even try to sign yourselves up for ballroom dancing classes. If you go to places of luxury, you will feel that way too. After all, luxury is meant to be enjoyed! Buy macaroons in a cafe and enjoy an espresso, read a good book at the beach, visit a museum or talk a walk in a very nice neighbourhood to enjoy the architecture.
10. Are your relationships up to standard?
Do you have friends that aren’t really good for you? Do you have family members that constantly put you down? Is your husband unnecessarily mean to you in front of others? When you think of yourself living a luxurious life, you imagine yourself surrounded by your loved ones, at least, those that are good for you, right? You need to check the people that are putting a damper on your ability to shine and be the best version of yourself.
You can feel a little more luxurious by getting rid of that excess weight of peopling holding you back! Keep your distance from those mean family members and when they ask why be honest. Tell your husband off for his behaviour and make clear that it’s unacceptable to treat you that way. Make your boundaries clear! When people respect that, they can stay. If they don’t, you need to evaluate their importance to your new luxurious mindset!
